If we were to choose the best online slot ever (the one we play the most), this game from Microgaming would certainly be in the running: Thunderstruck 2.
There was an original Thunderstruck slot which was also very popular, and more often than not, the sequels tend to disappoint. Not so with Thunderstruck 2. There’s also Thunderstruck Wild Lightning which was developed by Stormcraft Studios in partnership with Microgaming and launched later. We still prefer the second game.
This game has really stood the test of time (launched in 2010) and continues to look slick.
The Norse mythology is great and has been copied many times (but never equaled). We are off to Valhalla to spin with Thor, Odin, Loki and Valkyrie. Thor’s Hammer is the Scatter that you will need to set off the main event: the Great Hall of Spins, while the Thunderstruck II logo is the Wild that stands in for all the other symbols (except the scatter) and doubles all wins.
There are also Viking Ships, Valhalla and the usual playing card symbols hewn from Norwegian granite.
Thunderstruck 2 has 5 reels, 3 rows and 243 ways to win. You will need three or more matching symbols on successive reels, starting from reel 1 to star collecting Norse treasure.
Another cool feature in the base game is a random feature called Wildstorm, which can turn up to 5 reels totally Wild reels for Thor sized wins.
-Thunderstruck II symbol is wild, will substitute and double a win.
-The Wildstorm feature can strike randomly turning up to 5 reels wild.
-3, 4 or 5 hammers gets you in tot he Great Hall of Spins. Multiple entries int the Great Hall will unlock further bonus features.
Thunderstruck 2 was one of the first of a series of games in Microgaming’s high quality 243 Ways to Win range (later examples include the Gung Pow Slot and the Game of Thrones Video Slot (on this last one you have the choice to play the game with a set number of Ways to Win, or you can opt for a traditional “Pick your Paylines” game.
