Online Casinos in Cuba
HAVANA, CUBA -- Raul Castro has lifted restrictions in many areas on the Carribean Island of Cuba following his ascent to the top job. Cubans can now buy DVD players, cellphones, microwave ovens, and other retail goods. Rumours are building that he may also lift the ban on internet gambling sites and online casinos. Although during its communist history Cuba has taken a poor view of casinos and gambling, before the revolution this island was a casino mecca.
The Carribean is already known as the online casino region of the world. Territories like Antigua, Jamaica, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and others are already strong in this market, and easing restrictions would also allow the Castros to get one over their old enemies: the administration in the US, since the biggest market is still the US for online gambling.
A $15 billion dollar a year industry might well be too tempting to turn down.
