The plot thickens...who won the €147 million lottery in Italy- the Superenalotto (the biggest ever win in Europe?)
Well, we reported the other day that it was one Ugo Verni, 49, a forestry worker. But he has now backtracked and said that he was joking. Andrea Barbieri, 47, is another local man tipped as a winner. But he says that he did not even play.
Vanni Simonetti is another suspect- but talk to him and the whole shebang is starting to wind him up. The owner of the bar where the winning ticket was sold is also a likely candidate - and things are starting to hot up with rumours that the Mafia is now wanting a 30% share of the loot. And dozens of "Dear Vanni" letter are arriving at the bar every morning, asking for cash. The telephone rings constantly with calls from people in desperate need of cash.
The Superenalotto rolled over 86 times and the numbers finally came in on Saturday. An employee working for Superenalotto confirmed that the winning ticket was bought at Bar Biffi, but that no one had yet claimed the prize. If the jackpot is not claimed within 2 months, the prize money will be returned to the State.
There were no new Ferraris outside any of the houses in the Tuscan hill top yesterday. We´ll wait and see.
