Senator John McCain enjoyed a marathon craps session after his run for the presidency in 2000. Betting $100 a time until the wee hours of the morning, Vietnam war veteran finished the session with thousands in winnings. And why not? It seems that this latest revelation, which is not really news at all, is being used to demonstrate that John McCain likes taking risks in and out of the casino.
But life is all about taking risks, is it not? Everyone takes risks all the time- every time you step into a car and drive down the road you are taking a risk. but the point is we take manageable risks (life would be a little dull if we didn´t- or rather we´d all still be sleeping in caves if we trod a completely safe line). If he likes a flutter, and he won, what is so wrong with that?
The problem seems to be with his links to the gambling industry- this is where the spin doctors are having a hey day. Mr. McCain was playing at a casino he had many discussions about when he was a member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, and he was also alledgedly playing with the person responsible for lobbying Washington on behalf of that casino. This doesn´t sound as smart or politically savvy.
Mr. McCain has been at the forefront of the transformation of the native Indian gambling empires into a $26-billion-a-year monster with more than four hundred casinos across the United States. Worryingly for the Republican team, Mr. McCain has refused to be questioned on the subject instead of meeting the questions about his gambling links head on. In a written note, the presidential candidate stated that he was “justifiably proud” of his record on regulated Indian gambling.
Well, we like to run a apolitical line here ate Online Casino King, and anyway- we are a UK site so our interest in this is only that: an interest. But if Senator McCain thinks that regulating the industry is better than making it illegal, and forcing it underground- then that we agree with.
