Fruities are basically the same as the slots that you would find in the US with one important exception- you have additional chances to land a winning combination with features such as:
Hold Feature: you can hold certain reels and spin the remaining to try and land a winning combination that pays out according to the payout chart. Tactics come into play.
Nudge Feature: if you have two reels with matching symbols lined up and there is a third matching symbol visible (but not lined up9 you may be able to "nudge" it up or down to complete the win.
Skill Shots or Trails- a game within a game where you try and hit a target on an oscillating board. You try and land on the big money obviously.
Free Spins, Free nudges etc. Certain combinations may land you bonus spins and nudges.
UK fruit machines generally have 3 reels, but can have between 4 or 6 reels with 16 to 24 symbols on them. The symbols used to be exclusively fruit, as you might expect given the name, but the term has widened to include a diverse range of symbols from kebabs and horses to curries (anything with a British theme basically).
