Virgin Casino to Launch its US Facing Casino

Posted on January 21st, 2014

Virgin Casino is on the cusp of launching its US facing online casino site in New Jersey, in the US.

Virgin was one of 15 casino websites approved last autumn by NJ state regulators- and they open their doors on Friday.

The site is powered by Gamesys, which runs the Caesars online casino in the UK and the successful Jackpotjoy bingo brand.

Players bet more than $4.3 billion on Gamesys games in 2012,” said Lee Fenton, chief operating officer of Gamesys. So they look like they should be pretty prepared. The Virgin online casino has more than 30 games: you can only play there if you are actually in the State, so they have had to work hard on their IP detection technologies, to make sure that they know where their players are coming from.

New Jersey’s gambling sites enjoyed $8.4 million in revenues between the Nov. 21 launch and the end of 2013. The business case is for New Jersay take in between $200 million to $500 million in 2014 in online gambling revenue.

As of last week, over 150,000 players had signed up with New Jersey gambling sites, although some players may have accounts with more than one site.

The big question will be whether this new money will be really new money, or bets cannibalised from landbased casinos in Atlantic City. A bit of both, we suspect. Sheldon Adelson, who is campaigning against online gambling, will be watching closely.
