Top 10 Las Vegas Casinos

Posted on August 20th, 2008

OK- let´s face it. Everyone loves a flutter online and that´s what we are all about- recommending online casinos. But that doesn´t mean you need to avoid the real world either. in fact, you might be playing online to brush up your skills at craps, for example, in time for your next visit to Las Vegas.

So let´s say you have booked your ticket with Virgin and booked a couple of weeks off work to head to Vegas and maybe on to the Grand Canyon or Lake Mead by the Hoover Dam (we would recommend both of these as an extra- get some sightseeing in as well).

Where do you stay in Las Vegas? Well- for that purpose, we have pulled together a list of our Top 10 Las Vegas casinos….read on.

The Bellagio
This casino is where the glamour puss set head for when they touch down in Las Vegas- luxury gambling and entertainment at its best. Play roulette, blackjack, craps, and baccarat at discreet tables or head for poker luxury at their high end rooms with lots of choice of either high or low limit games. A mecca for seven card stud fanatics. Or head to the High Stakes slots or the race and sports book lounge. For the discerning player. Free Martinis all round. Shaken not stirred obviously.

MGM Grand Hotel and Casino

This casino lives up to its name: it is big time grand and hails from bigsville in bigshire. This is the largest entertainment megalith on the planet. There are 4 separate areas (Hollywood, Emerald City, Monte Carlo, and Sports)- this complex is enormous, and offers more than 3700 slot and video poker machines, 70 blackjack and 15 craps tables, and 17 roulette wheels. There´s also plenty for the family to do with a youth center, showrooms, and kid´s theme park.

Monte Carlo

Themed on le Place du Casino in Monaco, the Monte Carlo is all about opulance and luxury gaming. And its one of the quietest casinos in the desert thanks to its well thought out acoustics. High Stakes players flock here and head to the exclusive high limit rooms for baccarat and blackjack so expect to see some serious money and some fancy cars about. Ferraris? Dozens of them. Porsches? Not another one. Stretch Hummer limo with disco ball inside? Nope- you´ll need to head down The Strip to the wide boy casinos for this. A class act.

Caesars Palace

Is this the most famous casino on The Strip? Probably. It certainly has history that the new kids on the block find difficult to match. Caesar’s Palace has an older section for High Roller Casino players and VIP players and a more modern areas called the Olympic Casino for people who have come for a flutter and a laugh. More than two thousand slots grace the halls as well as video poker machines, blackjack and craps tables, roulette, and other more in plush surroundings. One of the most popular gambling palaces in the desert.

Flamingo Hilton Hotel

With over half a century welcoming players through its doors (and that´s an age in Las Vegas believe me), The Flamingo is a Las Vegas legend. With a Caribbean-theme with hundreds of slot and video poker machines, roulette wheels, craps tables, blackjack, and much more. High Rollers flock here to play on the high limit (or no limit) tables. Yeah mon.

Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino

Having fast become a Vegas favorite since its opening in 1999, The Mandaley goes form strength to strength and is…huge. Only the MGM Grand beats it on size. More than two thousand slot machines and video poker games, over a hundred table games, all enclosed by a tropical biosphere. Service is top notch and there is plenty of alternative entertainment available. My personal favorite- that´s because I love the Asian jungle theme and the Asina foos on offer here.

New York, New York Hotel and Casino

One of the show stoppers from the outside, this doesn´t disappoint when you get throgh the doors. Over 2000 slot and video poker machines, 40 blackjack tables, 8 craps tables, 7 roulette wheels, and other casino games are mixed up in the blocks of restaurants and entertainment venues. Come complete with a half-sized Statue of Liberty and mini Empire State Building all of which house punters. Why go to The Big Apple when you can go to the New York New York ( I wonder if Frank Sinatra´s family get a cut for this casino using the strapline from his signature tune)?

Paris Las Vegas

Zut alors! Paris Las Vegas casino has an Eiffel Tower as well as over 2000 slot and video poker machines and over 100 table games, including a high-limit VIP block area for high-rollers. You can take a trip up to the top of the Eiffel Tower and take in The Strip, or or head to the “Notre Dame de Paris” musical extravaganza. Allez! Just like Paris, France except the sevice is better and there are more craps tables.

The Rio

“It´s name is Rio and it dances on the sand”…err, as the famous song goes. Moving on…..The Rio is only 3 minutes west of The Strip and is themed on a carnival- you´ll certainly get into the mood quickly with 2500 slot and video poker machines, 60 blackjack and 13 craps tables and 11 roulette wheels. You can wear sequin pants and samba around if you like, but most people soak up the atmosphere in smart casual.

Venetian

Mamma mia…..well, what can we say about the Venetian. This is Las Vegas surrealism at its best with gondoliers, Venetian architecture and a huge choice of casino games and shopping. Famous for its high-stakes area, this ornate casino now has a cousin in Macau. An unbeatable choice of food is on offer from all over the world as well as the Vegas Madame Tussaud’s. The noodles are excellent here. Head for the Chinese noodle bar by the massive sportsbook area.

What are you waiting for! Book your flight!
