Cowboy Neal Wanless from South Dakota Wins $232 Million on Powerball Lottery

Posted on June 8th, 2009

Continuing on our theme of whopping lottery wins (there seems to be spate of them at the moment with this one and the recent Euromillions Lottery Win), a young cowboy called Neal Wanless (23) from South Dakota in the United States has just won an eye watering $232million on the lottery – one of the largest wins recorded ever.

The rancher´s family were broke and the debts were piling up- they recently had their mobile home taken away by the banks.

Sporting a black Stetson, the cowboy insisted that he would continue working and even spent the week following his huge scoop (£145million in Blighty money) – moving hay bales about.

With a wide smile, he said: “I want to thank the Lord for giving me this opportunity and blessing me with this great fortune. I will not squander it. My family has been helped by the community and I intend to repay that help many times over.”

Mr Wanless bought the winning ticket in the adjacent town of Winner while he was buying feed for his animals last month.

He´ll take take home a lump sum of $88.5million (£55million) after tax. To get the full amount, he´d have had to accept a yearly payment.

Congratulations!
